Our digital accessibility goal

This accessibility statement currently covers our digital spaces. We plan to expand it in the next few months to include our physical spaces.

UUCF aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA. We currently consider this website partially conformant with that standard. This means that many parts of the website support the guidelines, but some content and features do not yet meet every Level A and Level AA requirement.

We have not represented this website as having passed a comprehensive formal accessibility audit. Accessibility is ongoing work, and we will update this statement as the site and our testing practices develop.

Public website

The public website includes visitor information, Sunday services and recordings, events and calendars, clubs and committees, leadership information, forms, and other congregational content.

Accessibility measures currently used across the public website include:

• Semantic page structure and labeled navigation regions.
• A skip-to-content link, visible keyboard focus, and keyboard-operable native links, buttons, form controls, and dialogs.
• Responsive layouts designed to support different screen sizes, browser zoom, and text resizing.
• Reduced animation when a visitor’s device requests reduced motion.
• Text labels or accessible names for controls, status announcements for important updates, and decorative images hidden from assistive technology.
• Fixed public hero artwork is rendered as native images with page-specific text alternatives describing its visible content and symbolism.
• New and updated headshots, event and Sunday Service images, and custom board, committee, club, Community Café, and volunteer hero images require author-entered text alternatives.
• Existing images in those areas received editable generic starting descriptions that editors can improve.
• Interactive Sunday-service transcripts when a transcript has been uploaded, with controls for font, text size, text and background colors, highlighting, and automatic scrolling.

Member and administrative portal

The authenticated portal includes profile, governance, event, Sunday-service, library, inventory, and other content-management tools. These tools share many of the public site’s semantic structure, keyboard focus, responsive layout, form labeling, and status-message patterns.

The portal contains more complex editing workflows than the public website. Although accessibility is considered as these tools are developed, not every portal workflow has undergone comprehensive testing with all keyboard, browser, screen-reader, and other assistive-technology combinations.

Known limitations

We are aware of the following limitations and are working to improve them:

• Other historical, third-party, and user-uploaded imagery may not yet have complete or sufficiently descriptive text alternatives and continues to be reviewed.
• Video captions depend on the individual YouTube recording and may not be available or fully accurate for every video.
• Interactive transcripts are available only for Sunday services for which a transcript has been uploaded.
• Third-party content and services—including YouTube, maps, linked documents, and external websites—may have accessibility behavior outside UUCF’s control.
• Rich portal features, including transcript editing, visual inventory tools, drag-and-drop interactions, complex tables, and some dialogs, have not been comprehensively tested with every keyboard and screen-reader combination.
• User-uploaded documents and historical resources may not all be fully accessible.

If you encounter an accessibility barrier, please tell us which page or feature you were using, what you were trying to do, and what went wrong. If you are comfortable doing so, information about your browser, device, or assistive technology may help us investigate.

We welcome accessibility feedback and will work with you to provide the information or service through an accessible alternative.
